Surgical Abortions for Chicago-Area Patients
At All Women’s Medical Center, we believe that every woman has the right to receive safe reproductive healthcare, including access to surgical abortions. Surgical abortions are available up to the first 12 weeks (first trimester) of your pregnancy. This service is provided by our gynecologist in a licensed surgery center where an anesthesiologist will provide general anesthesia or local anesthesia, as desired. Surgical abortions are safe and always confidential at our Chicago clinic.
What to Expect After Your Surgical Abortion Procedure
Following your surgical abortion in our Chicago clinic, you’ll need to arrange for someone to take you home. Please be aware that you may experience light to heavy bleeding with small- to moderate-sized blood clots for the next few weeks. Your vaginal discharge may be bright red, or it could be pink or dark brownish in color. All of these are perfectly normal. However, should you experience severe bleeding (saturating 2-3 pads or more per hour) or very large blood clots (half dollar-sized or larger), you should immediately contact us, as you could be experiencing severe complications. You can expect your normal menstrual period to resume in about 4-8 weeks unless you began taking birth control pills immediately following your procedure.
From Your Consultation to Follow-Up Care, We’re Here for You
From your initial consultation to any necessary follow-up care, All Women’s Medical Center is here for you. Patients who receive a surgical abortion at our Chicagoland clinic will need to schedule a follow-up appointment a few weeks afterward to ensure everything went well. Your follow-up visit presents an opportune time to ask additional questions or to receive private contraception counseling from our knowledgeable staff if you wish to avoid future pregnancies. Please feel free to contact All Women’s Medical Center with any questions or concerns or to request an appointment.
